New district program shares information

By EL CONQUISTADOR

WOODSTOCK – Beginning this school year, District 200 will use a new system for distributing information to families about nonprofit groups and other approved community organizations.

Instead of sending information home in students’ backpacks, fliers and other print materials will be posted online on the district website for all to see, according to a district news release.

The Web page for the new online system, called “Virtual Backpack,” will show the title of the program or event, the ages or grade levels for which it is targeted, dates and the file size of the document.

It also will provide information on how interested organizations may post their information.

The new Virtual Backpack system is expected not only to save paper, but also to save money in production costs and time needed to sort and handle materials.

Chances that the information might be lost or misplaced also will be reduced.

A limited number of print copies will be available in every school for anyone who does not have Internet access. As in previous years, program sponsors are responsible for providing those materials.

At first, regular updates will be sent to families when new fliers are posted.

District 200 parents should check with their child’s school to verify the school has their correct e-mail address.

The new Virtual Backpack link can be found on the District 200 website at www.woodstockschools.org.
