ST. CHARLES – From July 14 to 18, the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles will host the Kane County Fair & Festival.
While the fair hosts a variety of attractions and events, some returning and some new, one staple remains the same year after year: the participation of 4-H.
“One of the main reasons for having the fair is for the 4-H youngsters in the area,” said Larry Breon of Batavia, who serves as president of the Fair Board.
“Letting young people display their projects, get competition, meet other young people, let ’em learn how to get along.”
Deanna Roby, a Kane County unit educator, said 4-H participation in Kane County consists of 19 clubs and 450 members, many of whom will be participating in this year’s fair.
“The fair is the culmination of their project learning that’s occurred all year long,” she said.
The fair promises plenty of fun for those outside of 4-H, too.
Each night the grandstand will host entertainments acts, Motor Sports International Truck Pull on Thursday, championship bull riding on Friday, Big Hat Rodeo on Saturday and the demolition derby on Sunday.
“Big races, the rodeo and the demo derby – those things seem to constantly be popular,” said Breon.
Admission to each of the grandstand events is $10 in addition to the general admission, but the fair will also present plenty of free entertainment throughout the day.
Aside from the competitions and scheduled entertainment, guests are encouraged to attend the fair and enjoy the atmosphere.
There will be amusement rides and vendors and traditional fair food, such as lemonade shakeups and elephant ears.
“It’s just a nice outing to be there,” Breon said.
