ECC Kids’ College offers fun summer learning

By EL CONQUISTADOR

ELGIN – Children can stimulate their minds and satisfy their passion for art, entertainment, academic enrichment and nature at Elgin Community College Kids’ College.

The program is Mondays through Thursdays during the weeks of June 21 and 28, and July 12, 19 and 26 at the ECC main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive.

Kids’ College offers opportunities for children ages 6 to 15 to explore new activities and interests in a noncompetitive and fun learning environment.

Children can participate in camps that help them brush up on their Spanish, math and writing skills; develop a taste for culinary arts; and learn about cheerleading, magic and creating video games.

Kids’ College also will offer two online courses for children to explore and learn. “Using Legos Online” focuses on engineering theory and construction to construct complex building projects. “Video Game Making” will teach students how to design their own games, including developing objects and outcomes, and increasing difficulty levels and game features.

Additional classes will be offered online and off campus at Gage Art Studio in Gilberts and Aikido Shimboku Dojo in Lake in the Hills.

Parents can enroll their children for morning or afternoon camps, or both. Children enrolled in both camps must be registered and provide a sack lunch for the supervised Lunch Bunch.

“At $89 to $175 for each camp, Kids’ College is an excellent value compared with other summer camps,” said Jorge Phillips, ECC director of continuing and community education.

Early registration is recommended as space is limited. Before- or after-camp child care also is available  through the college’s Early Childhood Laboratory School for parents.

Scholarships are available to assist parents in making Kids’ College more affordable.
