Gurnee Mills Mall to get makeover
By KATHY GRESEY
GURNEE – A three-phase improvement project is slated to begin this summer at Gurnee Mills Mall, 6170 Grand Ave., in Gurnee.
Restroom renovations will comprise the first part of the project, with rooms for nursing mothers being added, as well as family restrooms. Also included in the first phase of the project will be the addition of granite countertops, porcelain sinks and touchless faucets and soap dispensers in the mall restrooms.
The second phase of the project will begin in 2011 and will include new doors, lighting, landscaping and signage at at least four of the mall’s entrances.
The third part of the project, slated to begin in 2010, will see new seating in both mall food courts, as well as new marble flooring and decorative fixtures. Additional signage also will be updated.
“Each year, we’re focusing on something a little bit different,” said Randy Ebertowski, general manager of Gurnee Mills. “We’re prioritizing for what’s going to make the biggest impact on the customer.”
The mall will remain open during all phases of the three-part improvement project.
Ebertowski added that the mall also has been working on parking lot upgrades, including resurfacing, striping and new signage.
About $950,000 has been put toward that project each year through 2017, he said, noting that some projects already had been underway.
Other new developments at Gurnee Mills include the recent addition of a Stride Rite Outlet store.
Aerie, a lingerie store, A’Gaci, a women’s clothing store, and Cinnabon also are scheduled to open at the mall by early summer.
