Turning Point to offer program in Spanish
WOODSTOCK – Turning Point’s Partner Abuse Intervention Program is adding a Latino Parenting Group to assist parents who have perpetrated domestic violence against their partners or children.
The program promotes understanding of the effects of domestic violence on children and to teach nonviolent parenting skills and techniques. The program will be offered in Spanish.
Turning Point’s Partner Abuse Intervention Program tries to stop abuse by helping abusers to see that abuse is not acceptable, helping them to take responsibility for their actions, and helping them to learn nonviolent and noncontrolling ways to communicate.
Turning Point offers programs for men and women in English and Spanish.
This group will run 12 weeks and child care for children up to age 6 will be provided. The start date for the group still is to be determined.
Specific topics will include family dynamics, impact of domestic violence on children, child development, parenting techniques, and communication skills.
DCFS-referred and voluntary referrals are accepted, and an evaluation is required before participants may attend.
Interested individuals or couples may call Maura Cruz, Latino Partner Abuse Intervention Program facilitator, at 815-338-8081, ext. 233, to schedule an evaluation.
