Smile big, you’re gonna be in the paper!Your face tells a story; we want to share that story. But we need your help. I know that there are always special moments that are captured in photos – your daughter’s first crawl, your son’s baseball game, yourself in that killer dress. We want you to send us those photos. I know you’ve got them. If you’re like me, you have enough of them to wallpaper a castle. We want to see photos of your kids’ first hayride and of their first car. Photos of your quinceañera and of your wedding. And anything interesting and beautiful you’ve captured. They all represent you and your life and that’s what we want to share. You know those faces that appear on the giant LED screen towers on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago? Those are the faces of 1,000 of its residents. They’re women, men and children of all colors and races. And they all represent the city they live in. The two 50-foot glass towers called The Crown Fountain (water flows from them from mid-spring to mid-fall) were designed by the Spanish artist Jaume Plensa and inspired by the city’s diversity. If you’ve never seen the faces, you’ve missed something interesting and unique. From an elderly black man with white hair that sticks straight-up like a Mohawk, to a little blond girl with freckles. One by one, the faces constantly change on the screens. And when out-of-towners see the images on the towers, they can get a glimpse of some of the people who they might encounter during their trip. That’s the idea behind our soon-to-come section – “Tu Comunidad.” We feel that the diversity of our readers should be displayed proudly. So that in every issue, you can see some of the people who live in your city and the cities around you. You can e-mail your photos to the following address: photos@elconquistadornews.com With your submitted photos we’ll need your name, a contact number and a brief description of the photo. So hurry, start sending them now. Let’s get you in the paper! |
