AURORA – Garbage stickers will increase from $2.35 to $2.60 as of January 1, per the agreement between the City of Aurora and Allied Waste that was approved in 2007.
The environmental refuse fee will increase from $3.00 per household per month to $3.35 and from $2.00 to $2.25 for senior citizens’ (age 65 or older) households.
The charges appear on city water bills.
The fee covers unlimited recycling as well as curbside brush, leaf, and natural Christmas tree collection.
Fourteen-gallon bags for purchase by senior citizens will increase to $1.30.
The costs for the optional, 65 and 95 gallon garbage carts will go up to $168.00 and $204.00, respectively.
Allied Waste will accept old stickers on garbage left at the curb for the first two weeks in January.
Residents are encouraged to mail in old stickers, along with a check for the price difference between the old and the new stickers, and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Allied Waste of Aurora; 1565 Aurora Avenue Lane, Aurora, IL 60505.
Allied will accept the old stickers by mail until February 28.
In addition, Allied Waste will collect natural Christmas trees to be ground into pine mulch, the week of Jan. 4.
The trees should be free of all decorations including tinsel, and placed un-bagged, near the curb on resident’s regular garbage/recycling collection day.
